FAQ's

Where is the Somfy motor installed?

The Somfy Motor is installed within the tube or headrail of your awning, blind, roller shutter or projection screen – effectively making the motor hidden from view.

Who will do my installation?
Somfy has a dealer network throughout Australia and New Zealand who provide the finished awning, blind, roller shutter or projection screen to you. All dealers are trained on Somfy products. These dealers will do your installation – whether it is for new or existing applications. Also a licensed electrician is required to connect the system to the power supply.

Can the Somfy automation system be installed in my existing awnings, blinds or roller shutters?
Yes. Motorized solutions from Somfy can be fitted to most new or existing blinds, awnings or roller shutters.

What is the difference between wired installation and non-wired installation?
Wired installation requires a direct wiring connection between the motor and the controller and then a connection to a powerpoint. Non-wired - or RTS - connection requires only for the motor to be connected to the powerpoint. The radio receiver is inside the motor so no additional wiring is required. Non-wired connections are great for high up or exterior applications or for retrofits so there is no messing or drilling to your existing décor.

I have motorization already but it is a wired system. Can I upgrade this system?
Yes. It’s very easy to modernize your system and replace it with Somfy RTS technology to enable centralized operation of your automated systems. And if you like, you can operate the whole system using a remote control, for even more freedom.

Is a non-wired RTS installation more expensive than the traditional wired system?
Costs will vary depending on the individual application. But remember, using a non-wired RTS system you make substantial savings on electrical work because of reduced wiring - PLUS there’s no need to disturb the interior décor.

Do I need to motorize everything at once?
No, you can start with just one window - a heavy roller blind for example - and then add motorization to other blinds, awnings or shutters later on. And by using Somfy’s RTS technology we can retrofit, add new applications or functions and expand your automation system at any time.

Can I motorize my window furnishings without having to renovate my entire house?
Of course. The Somfy radio technology means you don’t need any wiring between the motor and the control switch. This is a simple and clean solution.

Do I lose all system settings when there’s a power cut?
No. The memory is designed so that all the settings are retained when there is a power failure.

OK I want to install a Somfy automation system. Where do I start?
Easy. Contact you nearest window furnishings dealer or contact Somfy directly and we will have one of our dealers contact you.

How cool will my friends think I am having a Somfy remote controlled automation system for my blinds, roller shutters, awnings or projection screens?
Well……firstly congratulations on your excellent choice. We think you will be the coolest on the street!!

How to Measure Your Windows
1. Decide if you want your shades installed within the window opening (Inside Mount) or on your wall/trim (Outside Mount). Inside Mount provides a neater look, but be sure you have enough depth, a minimum of 2 3/4 inches, to allow the product to fit. Use an Outside Mount when your opening is shallow or when your window is significantly out of square.

2. Measure all windows with a steel measuring tape, even if they appear to be the same size, rounding down to the nearest 1/8". Don't be surprised if your windows aren't perfectly square. The maximum window shade size that the battery-powered motor can control is 72" x 72".

Measuring for Inside Mounts:

Provide the EXACT window opening size. DO NOT TAKE ANY DEDUCTIONS.
Width: Measure in 3 places (top, middle, and bottom) and use the NARROWEST measurement. Measure in 3 places and use the TALLEST measurement.

Measuring for Outside Mounts:

Specify the EXACT WIDTH and the EXACT HEIGHT you want your product; the factory will make your product the exact size you specify. Include room in your measurement for the mounting brackets, which are up to
2 1/2 inches tall. For additional privacy and to block additional light, add 3 inches on the top, bottom, and both sides.
